We would sit around while she read to us from some of her favorite poets. Her face glowed as she entertained us while we listened to her. I recall one time she read to us one of her favorite poems. We were silent as we hung on every word. Grandma began in a low voice as she read to her grandchildren.  What a great poem! I love it as much as my grandmother. The family loves her stew. It is one of my favorite meals. She would put in the stew everything, but the kitchen sink as the old saying goes.  Grandma's Homemade Stew Ingredients 1 1/2 lbs. stew meat or a small beef roast 3 large potatoes, peeled, cubed 2 large carrots, peeled and diced 1/2 cups chopped onions 2 large celery stalked, cubed 1 canned cut green beans, drained and washed 1 canned whole kernel corn drained and washed 1 canned diced tomatoes 1 can tomatoes sauce salt and pepper to taste Place cubed meat in large skillet with water. I slipped and fell off the porch. Everyone ran to help me up from the ground. My ankle hurt bad. Mama and Grandma insisted I go to the hospital and get checked out. I was not ready for this, but I was hurting badly. The whole family went to the hospital with me. The doctor told us that I had sprung my ankle and I would have to stay off it for a while. I could not believe this had happened to me. I was eager to return to school on Monday. Mama decided we would stay at Grandma's house since I would have to return to the doctor to get checked out in a few days. I decided to make the best of it.   There was not anythin

Mama and Grandma were in the kitchen finishing the Christmas dinner. The house smelled of roasted turkey and pumpkin pies. It was wonderful. I was happy. I had much to be happy about it was Christmas Day at Grandma's house.  "Carrie, dear, it's time to get up," Mama called as she opened my door.  "Merry Christmas Mama," I said.
