Christmas Decorating at Grandma's

We have a family tradition where we would go to Grandma's the day after school is out for the holidays.  We would pack the car early that morning and head to Grandma's house.  We sang Christmas Carols all the way there.  This is a happy time.

When we arrived, Grandma always had her usual treats.  The hot chocolate and sugar cookies were the perfect snack.  Grandma would sit in her rocker and Papa in his large red recliner.  Daddy and Mama always sat on the large sofa on the floor near the fireplace.  It was great to be at Grandma this time of year.

The next morning it would be a special time for everyone.  Papa would bring in the largest tree on the farm.  This was his favorite thing to do at Christmas.  The tree would always be large and full.  It was the perfect tree.  Daddy would get the decorations from the special closet that had been stored after the holidays.  Everyone would be excited as we sang carols and laughed while we went about decorating. After each piece had been placed in its proper place, Papa would turn off the lights.  He would switch on the Christmas lights.  It would be beautiful.

Grandma's Homemade Stew Recipe

The family loves her stew. It is one of my favorite meals. She would put in the stew everything, but the kitchen sink as the old saying goes.  Grandma's Homemade Stew Ingredients 1 1/2 lbs. stew meat or a small beef roast 3 large potatoes, peeled, cubed 2 large carrots, peeled and diced 1/2 cups chopped onions 2 large celery stalked, cubed 1 canned cut green beans, drained and washed 1 canned whole kernel corn drained and washed 1 canned diced tomatoes 1 can tomatoes sauce salt and pepper to taste Place cubed meat in large skillet with water. Mama and Grandma were in the kitchen finishing the Christmas dinner. The house smelled of roasted turkey and pumpkin pies. It was wonderful. I was happy.
